Harper's Diesel Tax Cut Not On...?

http://www.todaystrucking.com/news.cfm?intDocID=20989

I didn't look into this very deeply, but this 2 cents/litre cut seemed like the sleaziest of campaign promises: No real economic impact, the wrong type of policy, but got cheap press and problably votes from some.

A Green Voter in Favour of the Coalition and Electoral Co-operation

I was contacted this week by a Green party member (not in our riding) who is advocating the above, and contacting EDA's to marshal support and action by way of supporting the concept to GPC Council. We had a very good discussion, not necessarily in agreement on tactics and priorities, but good exchange of opinions. I've posted an excerpt below by permission, that was Richard's response to my comment that our party was percieved as far "left of centre" and this was not the nature of the party:

A Post by a Green Voter that Does Not Support the Coalition

Subject: Justice

This was sent to me via the cmmgreens@greenparty.ca e-mail contact on the GPC site. I had a very good exchange with Karen. She was ticked off, but very rational, and despite my initial doubt she told me she had voted Green (for Jake) in the last election:

"I have just freaked out about the OC Transpo bus strike so I might as well continue the tirade. The Canadian people have spoken and we elected Harper. Get over it. Work together to make Canada strong.

A Post on Behalf of a CMM Member Supporting the Coalition

THis came to us from Heidi. I got her permission to post it for her:

"Hello Jake and CMM Greens,

I would like to express my support for the Liberal-NDP coaltion proposal(supported by the Bloc), as an alternative to the Harper government.

I would be even happier if a few Green Party representatives were invited to be part of the coalition. A governing body comprised of Liberals, NDP, and Greens would be more in line with the political will of the majority of Canadians."

Great Press on the Current Federal Political Mess

Two good articles that I've read on the political storm caused by the fiscal update:

Randall Denley - Now is the time to lead the country, not pick fights

Denley's article is right on, with very amusing sarcasm, like:

The Loss of Public Funding - What, Why, and How..?

The move by the Conservative government in presenting the removal of the $1.95/vote funding was rumoured within the Green Party a couple of weeks ago. At that time a few sensible people I communicate with felt that it was an unlikely move by the Harper government (however desireable).

Does the "Eat Local" Green philosophy of local consumption apply as well to....oil?!

I am listening to the CD version of "Hot, Flat, and Crowded" by Thomas Friedman (I highly recommend it). Lots of interesting info and proposals on how the global economy needs to change with threat of AGW (Athropogenic Global Warming - "Hot"), the internet (communications and information evolution - "Flat"), and population ("Crowded"). In this work he discusses the idea that the U.S.

About Blogs....

As my first blog entry on the new CMM Greens web site, let me start by talking about blogs, and what I think I will do here.

I haven't really blogged. Not that I don't write and express my opinion. I've written letter to the Citizen, comments on articles online, posted a couple times on the GPC site, and even ghost-written a submission to a community newspaper. Lots of thoughts go into e-mails.
